EFT (commonly referred to as just “Tapping”) is a safe, gentle, noninvasive technique that uses a combination of ancient acupressure techniques and modern psychology to treat an impressive list of common problems and medical conditions. It can be used along with any medical treatment or other self-help method.
Numerous case reports by clinicians who have used EFT with clients, and by individuals who have applied it to their own lives, have been published over a period of more than 25 years,. These accounts indicate that many people who try EFT/Tapping benefit from it, often in an impressive manner (see Accounts of EFT/Tapping, below).
In addition to the thousands of individual records that have accumulated, independent research has substantiated the beneficial effects that EFT has on fears and phobias, pain, depression, anxiety, and many other troubling conditions.
Because the list of individual reports referenced here represents a limited segment of the general public, you will not see here accounts of people who did not benefit from EFT/Tapping (they did not write us about them), however some of the reports describe a need for continued use of EFT over an extended period of time which can often be the case for a serious long standing condition. It is useful to know the limitations of EFT because although it sometimes works immediately and dramatically to ameliorate a troubling condition, in other instances it requires persistence and dedication to obtain its results. Occasionally EFT/tapping fails to work at all for a specific individual. The only way to find out if you personally will benefit from the method is to try it, making sure that you apply it correctly as instructed by an expert teacher. Several ways that you can learn EFT in an authoritative and safe manner are described here.
To Get Started with EFT/Tapping
There are several main ways to learn EFT/Tapping in your home. (Most people first learn through home instruction):
1. The quickest and easiest way to learn EFT/Tapping at home from a leading authority in this field takes just under one hour (see Dr. Carrington’s Introduction to EFT). Using this approach, you will learn the new Short Form of EFT which most EFT Masters presently use, and apply it to your own issues while you learn.
2. If you want to learn the Long Form, you can purchase EFT’s Founder,Gary Craig’s EFT Manual. This manual teaches the original Long Form of EFT, which is essential for students of Energy Psychology and researchers, but it also contains much valuable information and hints for any aspiring EFT user. It is presently being revised by its Founder with the new edition expected to be released soon.
3. Many EFT Masters and other highly qualified trainers teach EFT in a form that can be used at home but also offer in-person training in the method. The latter is a very desirable type of instruction although it is obviously more costly than home training and involves traveling. The main caution you need to observe when seeking training is to make certain that the person you are learning from is highly qualified. It is important to know whether they are approved as a trainer of meridian tapping by an authorized training organization (such as for example AAMET) and are therefore qualified to teach EFT Levels 1, 2, or 3.
4. Be aware that learning just the meridian tapping points and how to use them in sequence, while useful, does not give you enough training to begin to use EFT/Tapping on your own for deep seated problems. Many places on the Internet teach the tapping points free, and these can often be useful for some common problems. If they do not work for even these problems, be aware that EFT/Tapping is actually a structured form of treatment that has many facets and that, at a minimum, using it for a problem of any complexity requires that you know about the theory of “Aspects”, and how to apply certain safety precautions such as the “Tearless Trauma” technique. Dr. Carrington’s First Steps in EFT DVD, while it gives you this information in an authoritative way, is not a substitute for in-person treatment from a qualified EFT Practitioner if you have a deep-seated or urgent problem or want to delve into EFT/Tapping in more depth and mine its many resources.
